PSs Ingabire Assumpta (L) and Umutoni Nadine (R) exchange the hand over documents

19 October 2017

The National Food and Nutrition Coordination Secretariat was, today, handed over from the Ministry of Local Government to that of Gender and Family Promotion, following a recent Cabinet decision to establish the Early Childhood Development (ECD) Program.

Both Ministries were represented by their respective Permanent Secretaries, Mrs INGABIRE Assumpta and Umutoni Nadine.

Also present was the appointed ECD Program Coordinator, Dr Anita Asiimwe and the entire staff from the Secretariat and all MINALOC Senior Staff.

Mrs Ingabire Assumpta commended the Secretariat Staff who have been working since it was created (1year), and she assured the new care takers of their commitment and discipline as well as of a strong foundation that has been laid in the sector. She pledged the continued support from her department, regardless of the shift in responsibilities.

Mrs Ingabire Nadine and Dr Anita Asiimwe welcomed the Cabinet decision as an enabler for their institutions to fast track issues related to family promotion.

They emphasized the need for strong collaboration with local governments, because families are the ones that constitute the foundation for the administrative entities.

They also emphasized on the need for continuity, because all family related programs were designed to benefit Rwandans’ families and households, adding that; “all starts with the early childhood period; thus ECD is critical for sustainable development”.

The staff shall remain hosted at the Ministry of Local Government, pending their relocation into their new offices, which is scheduled for early next year.

Wishing them all the best!
