Partnership is a key to success in local government – Munyeshyaka

During the handover ceremonies between the outgoing and incoming Governors of the Southern Province that took place yesterday at the Province headquarters in Nyanza, the Minister of State in charge of socioeconomic development in the Ministry of Local Government, Hon. Munyeshyaka Vincent, said that; partnerships is key to success in local government.

Minister of State Munyeshyaka, who was addressing the gathering during the handover ceremonies, expressed the Ministry's gratitude to H.E the President of The Republic, for his visionary leadership and continuous support to the Local Government Family.

He also thanked former Governor Munyatwari for the achievements during his over 5 years at the helm of the Southern Province, as it was evident that most of the first top ten districts in Imihigo Evaluation came from that Province.

“Southern Province has recorded different achievements but we want you [the new governor] to offer more efforts and strengthen the partnerships for the consolidation of the achievements and more development in this Province: partnerships between government entities, non-governmental organisations, civil society organizations and the private sector will yield the progress in the Province. The yield of positive partnerships is the welfare of the citizens that we all strive to attain,” Munyeshyaka told the new governor.

“There are other issues on national level that still need special focus even in this Province. They include eradicating poverty by managing well the poverty reduction programmes; fighting malnutrition and mobilisation of the citizens to preserve hygiene and sanitation wherever they are.” Hon Munyeshyaka emphasized.

The New Governor Mureshyankwano Marie Rose pledged to work together with all development partners and other stakeholders to consolidate the achievements and to work towards more progress.

Mr. Munyantwari Alphonse who was the governor of Southern Province, was last month transferred to the Western Province as Governor while Mureshyankwano was a member of Parliament in Rwanda, in the Lower Chamber.
