PUBLIC OPINION TO BE COLLECTED DURING GOVERNANCE MONTH

The Ministry of Local Government launched, today, the Governance Month. During this period, local leaders will reinforce their collaboration with the citizen and collect their views on what can be done to transform local government into desired entities to achieve development on target.

 

The citizens’ opinions will inspire the elaboration of the 7-year National Strategy for Transformation, especially in areas of Governance and Decentralization; Social Protection and Social Affairs, Local Economic Development and Community Development.

 

The exercise kicked off with the Minister of State in charge of Socio-Economic Development, Hon. Cyriaque Harelimana, attending the citizen outreach in Kanyinya Sector in Nyarugenge for complaints resolution.

 

A local resident, Uwimana, opined about justice sector.

 

She said: “In my view abunzi (mediators) should have term limit. This will avoid the repetition of any misconduct over their mandate. Trials should also be accelerated so to give justice to the people in the right time.”

 

Hon. Harelimana urged the residents to opine constructive ideas that can contribute to socioeconomic development.

He said; "your opinion will expose the problems within service delivery and complaints; it will also enhance citizens’ intervention in leadership."

 

The ideas that are being collected shall contribute to the assessment of the last 15 years of decentralization policy, but also shall inspire local and national strategic planning, as the Government promotes a citizen-centered leadership.
