KOREA TO SUPPORT RWANDA’S RURAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS


The South Korean Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Mr DONG-SEOK and his delegation who have been in Rwanda for a one day official visit made a courtesy call to the Minister of Local Government, Hon James MUSONI, on October 26, 2011.

Having visited their funded rural development projects in Kamonyi district, the delegates commended Rwanda’s socioeconomic transformation, and pledged more support to rural development programs.

In the past two years, South Korea has offered short term courses to twenty and two masters’ to local government officials. Moreover, they have also dispatched fifteen volunteers to Rwanda, who are currently deployed in Kamonyi district for capacity building through initiation of New Village Movement Model – Saemaul Undong Movement.

The Minister of Local Government commended the Republic of South Korea for its support to Rwanda in different areas such as; ICT projects, capacity building, education, trade and investment, human resource development and rural settlement.

Minister Dong Seok commended Rwandans for the remarkable tremendous development they have achieved under the visionary leadership of President Paul Kagame, and he encouraged Rwandans to work hard for them to survive from foreign aid.

Speaking to reporters after their meeting, Mr Dong Seok said that, the Korean Government is committed to work closely with the Rwandan government.  “We need strong cooperation, and we have to make it a success. If we succeed these Model Village pilot projects, they will be extended nationwide”, he disclosed.
