Wednesday, 17 April 2019, the Minister of Local Government Prof. Shyaka Anastase launched Rwanda Defence Force’s Citizen Outreach Program (COP) 2019 in Eastern Province.

The annual event took place in Mwurire Sector, Rwamagana District, where hundreds of people, leaders from Government to village level and representatives from different security organs collaboratively participated in a special community umuganda to prepare Nyirabidiri wetland for the ongoing agricultural activities.

Addressing the citizens, Minister Shyaka Anastase said that this program lines with constitutional mandate(s) of the Military of Rwanda.

“Our constitution mandates RDF to contribute to the socio-economic transformation of the nation and its people” among other mandate(s) he said

He therefore encouraged the people to take advantage of the program.

“RDF promised to send you specialists in agriculture to help you increase productivity. With this marshland, you can transform your lives if you work hard, save, avoid drugs and violence within your families and maintain peace and security in your communities. Let’s make Rwamagana District the first district to achieve inclusive economic growth that lives no one behind, let’s set a two-year period to eradicate poverty in this district.” He said

Throughout COP 2019, in coordination with MINALOC, MINAGRI, and MINISANTE, RDF will address specific issues of human security in areas of agriculture, health, shelter and infrastructure among other activities;

- At least 137, 900 people are expected to benefit from the free Health and sanitation services

-1,141 houses will be constructed for vulnerable citizens across the country

-As in Agriculture, 11,139 Ha will be cultivated, Terraces will be traced on 1,114 Ha, and 453 Kms for erosion control and environmental protection will be developed.
