Hon. Minister of Local Government Prof. Shyaka Anastase called upon farmers from Gatsibo, Nyagatare and Kayonza Districts to stop encroaching and grazing their cows in the Rwanda Defence Forces Combat Training Centre in Gabiro.
He made this call on Tuesday, 16th July 2019 at the official launch of Eastern Province campaign on finding solutions to their problems including encroaching Gabiro barracks. He met with residents of Munini cell in Rwimbogo sector, Gatsibo district and representatives of farmers from Gatsibo, Nyagatare & Kayonza.
In his speech, Hon. Minister Prof. Shyaka informed farmers that the Government will not sit and watch them encroaching Gabiro military barracks.
He advised them to use their allocated farms and graze on reasonable cows which would give them higher productivity.
“RDFs are noble and peaceful, normally in our culture when your neighbor is noble you don’t violate his/her home. We will not tolerate those who encroach in the Gabiro military barracks. We have been tolerant with them for so long, but enough is enough. It is not acceptable and we will never accept such malpractices.” Minister Shyaka said.
“You need to stop, but if you continue, we will increase penalties and make sure consequences are high for those encroaching. However, we don’t want you to lose your cows in such circumstances.” He added.
Minister Shyaka encouraged farmers to adopt modern technics for animal husbandry in order to increase on the quantity of milk produce and for better use of their land.
Government prohibits people especially farmers from encroaching Gabiro Combat Training Centre of Rwanda Defence Forces for purposes of safety and security since it is a training zone not for grazing.
