ITORERO NOW TO OPERATE AT VILLAGE LEVEL

On the 11th of December 2018, the Mistry of Local Government on collaboration with National Itorero Commission and Local Entities Development Agencies launched across the country Itorero at village level and new multi-sectorial approach to accelerate eradication of poverty.

The function took place across the districts while Nyagatare hosted national level with large crowd of the residents gathered from across the district for the launch function.

On behalf of the Minister of Local Government Prof. Shyaka Anastase, the Chairman of the National Itorero Commission, Mr Bamporiki Edouard said Itorero at village level must bring about the transformational changes that will yield solutions to the existing challenges of community.

He said: “Itorero ry’Umudugudu must be a catalyst and pillar of socio-economic transformation of the citizens; it must also impact the performance within Public Finance Management in order to acquire the desired future. It will create the spirit of self-reliant, a motivation for one’s development.”

 Itorero at village level is composed of 6 categories that will train the citizens according to their age: Ibirezi (Imyaka 0-5), Imbuto (6-12), Indirira (13-18), Indahangarwa (19-35), Ingobokarugamba (36-55) & Inararibonye (Imyaka 55 and above).

The officials also launched campaign on new multi-sectoral approach to accelerate eradication of extreme poverty.
