Umuganda, a path to self-reliance of Rwandans

The Minister of Local Government, Patrice Mugenzi, has urged citizens to remain committed to Umuganda, emphasizing it as a means of finding local solutions that drive Rwanda’s development.

Minister Mugenzi made these remarks on Saturday, January 25, 2025, while participating in the monthly community service event, Umuganda, in Masaka Sector, Kicukiro District.

The event was attended by various residents, as well as a delegation from Zimbabwe, led by the country’s Ambassador to Rwanda, Charity Manyeruke.

Minister Mugenzi highlighted that Umuganda is an integral part of Rwandan culture and has significantly contributed to national progress.

"We must continue to seek solutions from within, especially in building our nation. This culture we have must go hand in hand with preserving what we’ve achieved,” he said.

The minister also urged citizens to strengthen efforts around security, noting that security is the foundation of development, and encouraged everyone to be their neighbor’s watchdog.
