Umuganda being Transformed by Initiatives from Citizens

The dimensions of umuganda are being transformed by different initiatives conceived by the citizens whose participation and contribution are on the incessant rise impacting the outcome of this community work and improving the welfare of the community members across the country.

Today the Minister of Local Government Prof Shyaka Anastase together with different officials joined more than 20,000 Nyarugenge residents for monthly umuganda which focused on building and maintaining road drainage systems of road connecting Rwesero Model Village to Nyamirambo trade center; and cleanup of 62ha allocated to tourism activities.

The construction of 3.5 km road worth 88 million Frw - is the initiative of the residents whose contribution is up to 63 million Frw. Their contribution worth 71% has brought transformation through their community; their residential area is acquiring new infrastructure due to the initiative conceived first and foremost by the citizens themselves. The implementation combined the citizens’ efforts and the local administration support.

Addressing the residents, Minister Shyaka saluted the participation and contribution of the residents and also encouraged them to keep the spirit by protecting the achievements including infrastructure.

During today’s umuganda the area cleaned up, was offered by the residents for the purpose of touristic activities - they didn’t demand for expropriation.
