Minister Gatabazi visits Iwawa Rehabilitation Center

Kigali, On 10th September 2022, Hon. Gatabazi Jean Marie Vianney, Minister of Local Government conducted a one-day working field visit to Iwawa Rehabilitation Center. His delegation included Governor of Eastern Province, Mayors of Eastern Province’s Districts among others.

The Iwawa Rehabilitation Center is currently rehabilitating 3,523 former delinquents mainly youth.

In his remarks, Minister Gatabazi emphasized on lecturing them about positive values of Rwandan society and why they are being rehabilitated.

“You are under this rehabilitation process because the Government of Rwanda loves you otherwise you would all be in prisons because most of you were criminals. We want you to fully focus on all studies and rehabilitation sessions so that you can change for good.” He said

Minister Gatabazi also called upon Local Government leaders to put in place measures to prevent delinquency, and mechanisms to support former delinquents.

One the site, He toured the exhibition showcasing the practical and market oriented skills the rehabilitees learn during the rehabilitation process.

The exhibition included a modern house built on the island by the rehabilitees but also the agricultural produce, furniture and garments they produced to name a few.
