Minister Habimana joins Rulindo Residents in Umuganda
Minister of Local Government, Habimana Dominique, joined residents of Rulindo District, Buyoga Sector, in the end of March community work (Umuganda), where activities focused on clearing filtration trenches on hillsides to prevent disasters, particularly during the rainy season.
Minister Habimana urged residents to take proactive measures against disasters by ensuring their homes are structurally safe and relocating from high-risk zones where necessary. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining hygiene at personal, household and public levels.
“Hygiene should be our pride. Everyone, wherever they are, must maintain personal cleanliness—washing regularly, brushing teeth, and wearing clean clothes. We must also instill these values in our children,” he said.
The Minister further highlighted that access to quality services is a right, encouraging citizens to speak up whenever they are not adequately served.
As Rwanda prepares to commemorate the 32nd anniversary of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi (#Kwibuka32), he called on residents to actively participate in remembrance activities, support survivors, and reject genocide ideology.
After the Umuganda, Minister Habimana visited the Muyanza irrigation scheme, where crops such as maize, vegetables, and fruits are cultivated. He encouraged local authorities to work closely with residents to maintain infrastructure, boost productivity, and contribute to national food security.
