President Kagame thanks Rwandans for holding on to Umuganda

As per every last Saturday of every month, today’s Umuganda was carried out across the country while the President of the Republic H.E Paul Kagame and First Lady Jeannette Kagame took part by joining over 8,000 residents of Kimihurura Sector to build retaining walls, water drainage systems, clearing bushes, & levelling a 2.81 kilometres road financed by citizens.

After Umuganda activities President Kagame thanked the residents for not giving up their cultural umuganda which has played a crucial role in the development of Rwanda.

He said: “I want to thank you for upholding the culture of working together through umuganda, if we did not have it we would not have achieved this level of development. Our transformation is founded on joining hands and believing in the progress we deserve.”

“I am happy to be here to join hands with you today. We are here to challenge ourselves to set even more goals together, and to continue sustaining what we have achieved.” He added.

The residents across the country have contributed to development of Rwanda through various activities in umuganda which is not only one of Rwanda’s home grown solutions but a long time culture that unites Rwandans.

Last year around 24 billion Rwandan francs was the outcome of Umuganda activities which contribute to Rwanda’s national economy.
