Vice Mayors retreat for socio-economic transformation

The Vice Mayors in charge of Social Affairs, Vice Mayors in charge of Economic Development and Deputy District Executive Administrators held a 4-days retreat at Nyamata in Bugesera from 16 October 2022.

The retreat was organized by the Ministry of Local Government and Local Administrative Development Agency aimed at strengthening the delivery of social protection and local economic development interventions but also presented opportunity to discuss on mechanisms of improving coordination and efficiency in the delivery of services for the socio-economic transformation of the population.

The retreat came following the Local Government elections held on 29th November 2021, all newly elected and re-elected Vice Mayors were given a 2-day over view of social protection on the 28th and 29th December 2021 as part of the wider capacity development planned for local government officials.


The retreat drew on keynote speakers from different institutions who lectured on policy
coordination, implementation, leadership and management skills, Leadership Synergies between Social Protection and Local Economic Development Global, regional and national level emerging issues.

In his remarks during official closing, the Minister of Local Government reiterated that local leaders need to work together and strive for socio-economic development of the citizens.

He said: "The citizen we are responsible for must have socio-economic transformation in any way. There is no different between socio-economic responsibility from social affairs – this is why both vice mayors need to work together for the aspiration in socio-economic transformation.
