Citizens’ Assembly Guidelines Revised

One of major changes within the guidelines is the number that the assemblies have to convene a week – from one time to two times a week now in order to maximize the resolving of all complaints of the citizens as explained today by the Minister of Local Government.

Prof. Shyaka Anastase said: Citizens’ assembly is one of our home grown solutions we have to solve our own problems; the guidelines have been revised. The assembly are now to convene two times a week instead of once as it has been.”

“We’re requesting citizens and various leaders to participate in the citizens' assembly so as to use this platform as a way to increase the solutions generated by the citizens themselves. He added.

The review of the guidelines intends to enhance decentralization policy; instill the culture of peace and tolerance, transparency, and providing space for citizens to apply their right and role in the governance of their country. The purpose is also to eradicate poverty and improve service delivery for the satisfaction of the citizens.

The assembly will be convening on every Tuesday and Friday afternoon. Where these two days coincide with another important function, the district administration will designate a different day after consultation with the citizens.

The new guidelines establish the reporting mechanism, format, frequency and channels. The report will be supported by electronic software e-Citizen Complaints that is used to receive and solve the complaints from the citizens online.
