PS Ingabire welcomes the role of TV in access to information in Rwanda

Rulindo - 24 May 2019, the Government of Rwanda conveyed appreciation to People’s Republic of China for the support which has seen an increase in number of Rwandans with access to TV.

Rwanda and China have concluded today “Access to satellite TV” project during the handover ceremony which was officiated by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government, Madam Ingabire Assumpta.

The function took place at Rulindo where the Embassy of China in Rwanda handed over to Government of Rwanda the project which was implemented through Chinese Support Initiative Access to satellite TV in 10,000 African Villages. Since April 2018, 6,000 Households benefited digital decoders in all districts and 900 digital TV were installed in public places across the country.

In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary Madam Ingabire Assumpta welcomed the project which is a crucial support to Rwandan Government’s plan to boost TV penetration especially in rural area. She emphasized on the role and influence of television in Rwanda, which serves as information and educative channel to the citizens.

She also revealed the government intent to facilitate the entry of TV equipment in country so that citizens easily get 'access to information' through TV. Ms Ingabire called upon the beneficiaries of the project to exploit it and ensure its sustainability for their benefits.
